Addressing the concern of a lot of UPSC aspirants, Mr. Shashi Tharoor aked Dr. Jitendra Singh to provide an update about the Preliminary exam due on May 31. In a Tweet, tagging Dr. Jitendra, Mr. Tharoor asked if the exams would be held on the notified date or postponed.
The UPSC website has a notice dated 12 February 2020, where 31 May 2020 as the date of commencement of the examination. No updates have been posted on the website clarifying whether the exam will take place on the decided date or not. This has led to confusion among the applicants who were to give the exam this year. According to independent data, 2443 aspirants were interviewed and 365 of them were selected in the last decade from Punjab.
While the question invited a lot of retweets, a lot of aspirants commented, asking Mr. Tharoor to also highlight the issue of the UFM (Unfair Means) rule in the SSC. The UFM or the Unfair Means Rule was updated for the SSC earlier, of which students claim they had no idea. Many aspirants have since complained about the new rule that had them disqualified despite meritorious performance.
UFM in SSC: Students complain
According to the new rule, candidates who use their names in the answer copies would be disqualified from the exam, as identity should not be revealed in SSC examinations. The Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) examination has a descriptive section in which essays and letters have to be written.
Students complained that they used numbers like ‘1,2,3’ and random alphabet like XYZ to represent the address in this section. However, it is reported that these candidates were disqualified from the examination despite having good marks. It was later reported that SSC will look into the matter, but no update has come out yet.
