Mohali, June 17

The residents of Zirakpur are at the receiving end due to power outages in many areas for the past around 60 hours. Nearly a hundred residential colonies are currently facing a power cut apart from several villages in the Zirakpur area.

Due to gusty winds and rain on Wednesday night, three 66 kV power transmission line towers were damaged following which power supply was disrupted in the Pabhat area and some other parts of Zirakpur. Due to this, all feeders got shut down at Daulat Singh Wala in Pabhat village and at the Ramgarh Bhuda sub-station. Several areas, including Pabhat, Balaji Enclave, VIP Road, Lohgarh, Guru Nanak Nagar, Abhepur, Chhat village and Singhpura in Zirakpur remained powerless for over 24 hours. The repair work was disrupted due to rains. At least 85 tubewells installed in the town could not be used due to the power outage.

The residents are losing patience as their whole schedule has been disturbed due to power outages in their areas. As per the information, it will take some more time to restore the power supply as the work of repair is in progress. Also, an inquiry had been marked by the PSPCL into the collapse of the towers.

Due to the disruption in power supply, the water supply also remained affected in the Zirakpur area. on Thursday, the families had a tough time as there was no water in their homes due to which they had to fetch water through tankers being operated by private companies or they had to buy mineral water bottles.

Even generators were hired by some households to tackle the situation. Some even shifted their elderly persons to hotels, while some shifted their families to their relatives’ places in Panchkula, Mohali and Chandigarh.

Executive Engineer of the area, HS Oberoi could not be reached for his comments.
