New Delhi, May 24
The Supreme court has sought a reply from the Center on a petition seeking compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the heirs of those who died due to coronavirus. A vacation bench comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah also directed the Center to abide by the guidelines issued by the ICMR on the issuance of death certificates to Covid-19 victims. The bench said there should be a uniform policy for issuing such documents. The apex court made the remarks while hearing two separate petitions. The bench said that unless there is a uniform policy on issuance of death certificates, the victims cannot file their claims under the compensation scheme. The next hearing in the case is set for June 11.
