Under the new guidelines issued by the state government in view of curbing the increasing number of cases of COVID-19, the confusion regarding the shops falling under the category of essential services was clarified by the Sub Divisional Magistrate Jalandhar-1.
Presiding over a meeting with local police officials, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dr Jai Inder Singh said that medicines and essential items like milk, bread, vegetables, fruits, dairy, poultry products like eggs, meat, Grocery/Kirayana, PDS shops, fertilizers/agriculture machinery/products, retail/wholesale liquor vends, shops selling hardware, industrial material, tools/motor pipes and etc. fall under the category of Essential Services. He informed the police officials that bakery / sweet shops, large department stores would be allowed to make home delivery from Monday to Friday.
Singh also clarified that electric / electronic, tire shops selling tires and alloys, car accessory shops are not allowed to open while mechanical spare parts / workshops can be opened till 5 pm. He said that as per the latest guidelines issued by the Punjab government, these shops could be opened from Monday to Friday till 5 pm except weekend curfew (from 6pm on Friday to 5 am on Monday).
SDM said that these restrictions have been imposed to curb the virulent spread of deadliest coronavirus and people must stay indoors until any kind of urgency. Prominent among present on the occasion included ACPs Harsimrat Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Palwinder Singh and Major Singh.
