Sangrur additional DC issues guidelines for cyber cafe owners

Additional District Magistrate Sangrur Mr. Anmol Singh Dhaliwal has issued guidelines for the owners of cyber cafes within the limits of District Sangrur using the powers vested under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974).

The orders said that a register should be set up to record the identity of the person using the facilities available at the cyber cafe. The person visiting the cyber cafe should be identified by his / her identity card, voter card, ration card, driving license, passport, credit card etc. The person in the cybercafe will personally enter their name, home address, telephone number and proof of identity and sign the register. The orders also said that if the owner of the cybercafe finds the activity of any person visiting the cybercafe suspicious, he will inform the concerned police station.

The orders said that a number of shops and commercial spaces were being set up in Sangrur district, known as cyber cafes. Many people visit these places to use other facilities including e-mail facility provided from these places and some anti-social elements, terrorists and criminals also mislead the security / investigation agencies of these facilities, the public. They can be used to create fear in the country, threaten the security of the general public, VIPs and government agencies and directly affect the security of the state by aiding terrorist activities. Therefore, immediate action is needed to save human lives from danger and any such situation. These orders will remain in force till January 14, 2021.
