Sabha threatens protest over boating at Brahma Sarovar

Kurukshetra, November 23

Enraged over the plan of starting boating at the Brahma Sarovar by the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB), the Shri Brahmin Evam Tirthodhar Sabha today announced that 101 Brahmins would tonsure their heads to mark protest, if the boating plan was not dropped.

The sabha has announced to hold the protest on December 2, on the occasion of the opening of craft fair during the International Gita Mahotsav. The Haryana Governor is expected to come for the opening of the fair.

Recently, the sabha had handed over a memorandum to the district administration to mark their resentment against the KDB’s plan.

Pawan Sharma, president of the sabha, said a large number of people from across the country reached Brahma Sarovar for religious purposes and take a dip in the sarovar. The decision of the Kurukshetra Development Board of introducing boating at the Brahma Sarovar will hurt their religious sentiments. The government can create a new site for boating if it wants to attract tourists. Such decisions are not good for the sanctity of the sarovar.

“We have submitted a memorandum to express our resentment but there was no positive response. It has come to our notice that Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya will be coming to Kurukshetra to inaugurate the craft fair on December 2, so we have decided that 101 Brahmins will tonsure their heads to mark their protest on this occasion”, he added.
