Rupnagar : Unexpected checks at various places to get children out of social norms like begging

As per the directions of the District Child Protection Unit, Mrs. Sonali Giri, Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar, in collaboration with the Police Department, a surprise check was carried out at various places in District Rupnagar today to get the begging children out of this social norm. Children rescued lDisclosing this here today Rajinder Kaur, District Child Protection Officer said that 4 children who were enrolled in government schools were rescued during the raid and the children were begging due to closure of schools during the Kovid-19 epidemic. The office verified in writing to the parents of the children rescued during the raid that their children would not beg in future. If their children are found begging in the future, legal action will be taken against them.Mrs. Rajinder Kaur, District Child Protection Officer also appealed to the general public not to give alms to such children. Efforts should be made to get the children out of the tragic disease of begging and give them a better future.
