Renovation work of Thapar model pond in Gurdaspur

 Under the ‘Maganrega’ scheme under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner, village development is being transformed, due to the renovation work of ponds under Thapar model, where the environment in the villages has become cleaner. Due to the reduction of diseases there, people have also got a lot of health benefits.

The Thapar model pond at village Paroshah, Block Kahnuwan has set an example for the area and this work has changed the face of the village. Disclosing this here today the Deputy Commissioner said that under the Maganrega scheme the pond at village Paroshah has been renovated under the Thapar model. Earlier, the pond was in very bad condition. The water of the pond used to overflow into the houses and people were very upset but with the development of the pond under the Thapar model under the Maganrega scheme, the people have breathed a sigh of relief. People walk around it day and night and are praising the government’s initiative.

During the renovation of this pond, the villagers got a lot of employment during the Corona epidemic. Under this model, the village’s sewerage water is filtered into wells near the pond and then pumped into the pond and the pond water is further used for agricultural purposes. The villagers are very happy with the construction of the pond, the drainage system has been fixed and the beauty of the village has been enhanced.

It may be mentioned here that there are 996 ponds in 1278 villages in the district out of which 685 ponds have been approved for development under Thapar model at a cost of about Rs. 14 crore. The remaining pond projects will also be passed soon.
