PUNGRAIN employees booked for siphoning off 33,549 wheat bags valuing Rs.3.09 crore

Around 33,549 wheat bags are now found to be missing from the PUNGRAIN three storage points in Ferozepur district while the shortage at fourth storage plinths is yet to be ascertained.

As per the crime report released today, in the three cases, the six officials – namely Hans Raj son Mithu Ram, Incharge, Gulab Singh, Baljit Ram, Yadwinder Singh, Hans Raj son of Piara Singh and Baj Chand -have been booked in FRIs No.169 at Sadar police station ( shortage yet to be ascertained) on the complaint of DFSC and Consumer Affairs cum District Manager, Pungrain, Ferozepur and No. 275, 276 and 277 at City Police Station, on the complaint of Deputy Director (Field) Food Civil Supplies Consumer affairs, Ferozepur Division, Ferozepur, under Section 409 (Criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 120-B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy)and 13 Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Amendment Act 2018.

The shortage of 620 bags of 50 kg packing weighing 310 qtl. of value of Rs.7.15 lakh has been found at M/s Chawla Covered Godowns, border road, Ferozepur, shortage of 6176 bags of 50 kg packing weighing 3088 qtl of the value of Rs.71.15 lakh has been found short at Luvkesh Sachdeva and Joginder Singh Chamber number 2, covered godowns and 10,364 bags of 50 kg each and 16,389 of State pool wheat stock of Rs.2.31 crore value has been found short.

In the three cases where shortages have been detected, Mohit Dhawan, SHO City has been appointed as IO and in the fourth case registered relating to Pawan Kumar and Co-owners open plinths village Madhre has been entrusted to Surinder Bansal, DSP.

At one of the storage points, the stocks have been stored less at the time of stacking by arranging the wooden crates inside the stacks, so that from outside no one could judge it.

However, no arrest has so far been made and a hunt is on to nab the custodians by the police. The investigations are on and more clues are likely to come on surface about the involvement of any other person in this scam right from the purchase and stacking at the storage points to cover the shortage.

Pungrain District Manager or the officials booked could not be contacted to know their version of the huge shortage in stocks.
