Additional District Magistrate Anmol Singh Dhaliwal exercising his powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974) has banned harvesting of wheat in the district from 7 pm to 9 am and There will also be a ban on setting fire to dry splinters in the fields. The orders also directed that the owners of the wheat harvesting combine harvesters would ensure that the old harvester combine harvesters be inspected by the manufacturer and the Department of Agriculture so that the quality of the wheat harvest would not deteriorate. These orders issued by the Additional District Magistrate will remain in force till June 6, 2021.
The orders of the Additional District Magistrate said that the experience of the previous years had shown that harvesting of wheat at night would leave moisture in the wheat and if not procured by the procuring agencies, the law and order situation would deteriorate. The fear remains. Similarly, setting fire to dry splinters in the fields after harvesting of wheat not only causes pollution but also creates fear of fire. In addition, old harvester combine harvesters adversely affect the quality of wheat grains, due to mechanical faults, the quantity of broken grains also exceeds the norms, making the procurement agencies reluctant to procure such wheat.
Due to the untimely sale of wheat, farmers are protesting. This threatens the law and order situation.
