Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Monday said that new model of precast concrete parabolic segment system would be implemented in Doaba region for watercourse lining.
Bajwa accompanied by Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation (PWRMDC) Chairman Jagbir Singh Brar showed satisfaction on the functioning of the model in Bhangala village and said that it would be executed for the farmers of the Doaba region at first to ensure efficient use of water in fields by the farmers.
The Minister said that under this precast concrete parabolic segment system; installation of blocks is easier and speedier in the fields as compared with conventional brick lining system. He said that under the brick lining system, a large amount of the labour and time is needed and it is costly than precast lining system.
The Chairman Jagbir Singh Brar explained to the minister that it is modern water conveyance system developed by PWRMDC where segments would be directly brought from factories and directly would be placed at the site.
He said that the labour cost of installation and jointing of blocks in a precast concrete system is much less than constructing brick-lined watercourses.
Brar also told the Minister said that this modern lining system has long durability than brick lining’s lifelong and most importantly, this lining system can be successfully used in the saline areas by using special cement.
