Activists of Mahatma Gandhi Peace Mission at Phillaur today protested against alleged drug racket in Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur which a number of employee cops have allegedly been involved as reported in media.
In the press conference called to express their anguish activists protested with placards in their hands: ‘Punjab Police vich drug mafia sharmnak hei’-‘Saade Dheeyan putran nu polie drug mafia to bachao’-‘Band karo nashei da khel, drug mafia te kasso nakel’.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurbinder Singh Atwal, A former MLA and president of peace mission said that it was really shameful that staff of the premier police academy where persons come from not only other states but also from foreign countries for training are involved in such sordid drug trade.
He said that that the director of the academy can’t be absolved of her moral responsibility of the going on in the academy. Brij Bhushan Goyal, Organizing secretary of the Gandhi Peace Mission rued that Punjab’s common man is at loss to understand as to whom it should tell it’s woes of disastrous play of drug trade which is snatching youthful lives from us.
He also complained that not a single political leader has spoken against the going on in the police academy and the local police at Phillaur.
He further said that if peoples’ faith is eroded from such like institutions and police force then no one will be able to save Punjab anymore. No wonder, Punjabi boys and girls will opt for distant lands. Both Atwal and Goyal wanted enquiry against the going on in Police Academy as well as Phillaur police which should be conducted by sitting judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge.
“We will be organizing a bigger protest in the town if there is no suitable action against the delinquent officers of the police academy and Phillaur police,” he added.
