A lady doctor was fined for not wearing a mask inside her car by SHO Kotwali Nabha on Friday. As per the reports, Dr. Harjot Kaur, who is posted at Primary Health Center at Suja in Bhadson block, was on her way to coronavirus duty.
When this incident came into light, Civil Surgeon Patiala, Dr. Harish Malhotra reportedly wrote a letter to Patiala SSP. He claimed that the challan was “unnecessary”.
He claimed that the people were being challaned for not wearing masks inside their cars which were unnecessary and against the guidelines being issued by the Punjab government.
In the letter, he reportedly wrote that according to the Epidemic Diseases Act, the fine was to imposed if the person does not wear a mask in the public place, not while being inside a car.
On the other hand, SHO Kotwali, Sarabjeet Singh Cheema, who fined the lady doctor, reportedly said that there were no guidelines issued not to challan someone for not wearing mask inside the car. The rules were the same for everyone.
