Partial lockdown imposed in Karnal district

With a surge in Covid-19 cases, partial lockdown has been imposed in Karnal, which comes into effect from Thursday.

Shops of non-essential products will be closed by 6pm, while the hotel, restaurants, stand-alone shops, essential goods shops like milk, medical store, grocery, petrol pumps, and others will have to close by 11 pm, confirmed Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner.

Karnal has witnessed a sudden surge in Covid cases in the past four days. On Thursday, 75 persons tested positive. The second list of Covid samples test will come by the evening.

“Since Karnal continues to report fresh cases at an alarming rate, the government has included Karnal along with five other districts –Panipat, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Yamunanagar in group-A category. Earlier, five districts –Panchkula, Ambala, Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonepat were a part of this category. A partial lockdown has been imposed in Karnal,” said Yadav while interacting with mediapersons at Vikas Sadan.

He maintained that they will ensure the implementation of Covid-19 protocol. Non-vaccinated persons will not be allowed in government offices, at public places, as well as in private and government buses.

Cinema halls, sports complex will remain closed. Bar, restaurants will run with 50 per cent capacity, he said. Gyms will remain opened till 6pm, but only vaccinated people would be allowed, he added.

He appealed to the people to follow the restrictions to curtail the spreading of virus. Yadav told that mask is mandatory at public transports and shops.
