Despite the cases have started coming down, PGI, GMCH-32 and GMSH-16 in Chandigarh have already started preparations for third wave so that children do not face any problem in the coming time.
9 bed ICU also in PGI-APC: A separate 32 bedded pediatric COVID ward is being made for the children in the Pediatric Center in the Advance Pediatric Center of PGI. A 9-bed pediatric ICU is also being built separately. Kovid positive children will be looked after on priority basis. Three oxygen generation plants of 1000 liters per minute are also being installed in PGI so that there is no crisis of oxygen in third wave in PGI. Apart from this, Covid beds are being increased. There is already an Advance Pediatric Center for Children in PGI. It has facilities for the treatment of children in the age group of 0 to 12 years.
GMSH-16- Trauma Center will have 14 ICU beds: 8 bedded ICU is being expanded in GMSH-16. Here, 14 more ICU beds are being set up adjoining trauma centers. Director Health Services Dr. Amandeep Kang told that the engineering department has started work. Soon 14 ICU beds will be installed here. ICU experts have also been hired. With this, the ICU bed capacity in GMSH-16 will be 20 to 22 beds. In the wards where there is no facility of oxygen line, work is being done with oxygen cylinders at present. Oxygen facility will be provided on all those beds.
Civil Hospital-45-Center Pediatric ICU: DHS Dr. Kang said that the civil dispensary in Sector-45 has been asked to provide dedicated pediatric facilities for the children. Civil Hospital-45 piped oxygen facility is already there. There is a plan to set up an oxygen plant there. Perhaps it should be ready before the third wave. This hospital is a 42-bedded hospital, but there is also a preparation to build a pediatric ICU here. Preparations have also started for hiring Physician, Paediatrician and Anesthesia Expert on contract. The focus is on increasing the main power and increasing other facilities.
GMCH-32 – Ventilator even for small children: GMCH-32 Director Principal Prof. Jasbinder Kaur told that before the third wave, ICU beds will be increased. We are yet to get 10 more ventilators from PM Care Fund. Beds will also be increased in Rikku specially made for respiratory diseases. Sector-48 hospital has 17 ICU beds. There is a 33 bed ward. We have 7 ventilators in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. There are 12 ventilators in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Altogether there are 19 ventilators. There are separate ventilators for small children. There is a plan to install ventilators for small children as well.
