Omicron strain in 7 of 92 samples in Haryana

Rohtak, January 7

Seven of 92 Covid samples from Haryana have been found to contain the Omicron variant. The remaining 85 have the Delta variant.

Sources said in the first lot, 103 samples of Coronavirus RNA had been sent for whole genome sequencing (WGS) at the state’s first and only next-generation WGS lab in Rohtak. “Of these, 11 samples could not be analysed due to poor RNA. Of the remaining 92 samples, Omicron variant was found in seven and Delta in 85,” revealed the sources.

Prof Dhruva Chaudhry, State Nodal Officer for Covid, said the random samples of positive patients from across Haryana had been sent for the WGS to the Rohtak laboratory. “Of the seven cases of Omicron, five are of patients from Karnal and two from Sirsa,” he added.
