DRI Uncovers ₹47 Crore Cocaine Haul Hidden in Coffee Packets at Mumbai Airport

In a major drug bust, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 4.7 kilograms of cocaine worth ₹47 crore from a woman passenger at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

According to officials, the DRI acted on specific intelligence inputs and intercepted the woman who had arrived from Colombo, Sri Lanka. During a thorough inspection of her luggage, officers discovered multiple coffee packets containing hidden pouches of white powder.

“Upon testing the substance using the NDPS field kit, it was confirmed to be cocaine,” a senior DRI officer said. The concealed drugs had been cleverly packed inside nine coffee pouches, apparently to evade detection during screening.

The woman was immediately taken into custody, and further investigations led to the arrest of the individual who had come to receive the consignment at the airport. As the probe expanded, three more members allegedly involved in the financing, supply chain, and distribution network were also arrested.

Authorities have charged all accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The DRI stated that an extensive investigation is underway to dismantle the entire cocaine trafficking network connected to the operation.

Officials described the bust as one of the most significant seizures of the year at Mumbai airport, underlining India’s increasing vigilance against international drug smuggling routes.
