Mumbai doctor says we are helpless, asks people to wear mask in video

Chandigarh, April 21
video of an emotional Mumbai doctor appealing to people to take precautions during these uncertain times has gone viral. The overworked and traumatised doctor broke down in the video because of the rising Covid-19 cases in the country. The doctor, identified as Dr. Trupti Gilada, an infectious diseases specialist from Mumbai, was driven to tears because of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases amid the second wave and the collapsing medical infrastructure in the country. The doctor who hails from Maharashtra, which is reeling under a continuous surge of cases, in a tearful appeal urged citizens to wear masks and not to panic. “I have never seen anything like this, we are so helpless. Like many doctors, I am troubled. I don’t know what to do. I am heart-broken. Maybe if I tell you what worries me, if I can help you understand, I might be more at peace,” the doctor says in the clip. She added that doctors have to manage critically-ill patients at home because there are no beds and there is a lack of oxygen and critical drugs. She said that doctors are not enjoying this, so everyone must take all the necessary precautions. “First, please stay safe. If you have not yet gotten Covid-19 or you were infected but have recovered, don’t think you are a superhero or that you have some immunity, you are wrong. We are seeing so many young people get infected…we have a 35-year-old on ventilator, and we can’t help them,” Dr. Gilada added. She said that all the doctors are helpless right now and are going through an emotional breakdown. So, people must wear face masks and maintain social distancing to stop the spread of the virus. “If you get unwell, if you feel unwell, don’t panic and try to get admitted. There is no space at any hospital and the few beds we have we need for critically ill patients. First isolate yourself, get in touch with your doctor and let us decide,” she said in her appeal. She also urged people to take the vaccine because it is helping people. In the end, Dr. Gilada asked people to not take Covid-19 lightly and pray for the doctors and the families of the patients who have fallen sick. Recently, another doctor’s appeal went viral on social media. The Delhi doctor had requested people to wear a face mask and follow all guidelines in a heartbreaking post.
