Mohali Health department celebrates ‘Dheeyan Di Lohri’ with fervor

A district-level event ‘ Dheeyan Di Lohri ‘ was celebrated by the district Health Department at the district hospital here today. Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur lit up the ‘Lohri’ bonfire and greeted the people on the occasion of Lohri and Maghi.

Speaking at the event, she stressed that giving due respect to girls is very important. She said that due to widespread awareness, the mindset of the people is gradually changing towards the girl child and the trend of female feticide is going down significantly in comparison to previous times.

Civil Surgeon said girls have touched heights in every field today. In many areas, girls have surpassed boys. She said, “If we celebrate the Lohri of girls today, thus we can be able to celebrate the Lohri of the boys in future. If we continue to kill girls in the womb, then who will marry the boys? Whether it is a girl or a boy, the real wealth of society is a well-educated generation.”

Earlier, the civil surgeon visited the maternity ward of the hospital and distributed gifts to newborns and their mothers. Lohri functions were also held today in all the government health institutions across the district. Lohri bonfire was lit and Lohri songs were sung at all the events.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Daljeet Singh Pardesi, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Renu Singh, District Immunization Officer Dr Girish Dogra, SMO Dr. Vijay Bhagat, Dr. H.S. Cheema, Dr Parminder Singh, Dr Sandeep Singh, Dr Babandeep Kaur, District Mass Media Officer Gurdeep Kaur, Health Inspector Bhupinder Singh Dahri, Dilbag Singh and other health officials and staff.
