A resident of village Dhurkot Tahli of block Moga 1, Sh. Mandeep Singh is a progressive farmer who cultivates paddy, wheat and potatoes on an area of 60 acres. Out of 60 acres, 10 acres are owned by the farmer and 50 acres are cultivated on contract basis. All the tools related to these crops have been procured by this farmer under the in-situ scheme of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Punjab, District Moga.Farmer Mandeep Singh said that he sows the varieties of paddy and wheat recommended by Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana and as per the guidelines of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Punjab and Atma Scheme District Moga, paddy straw has been mixed in the soil for last five years.
He further said that the soil health of his farm has improved over the last five years and with this technology the soil also retains water for a longer period of time, which saves water and helps in the traditional burning of crops. There was also a significant increase in micro-organisms. According to Mandeep Singh, the use of environmentally friendly techniques has also increased his crop yield and income.
The Punjab Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare provides all facilities to the farmers. He appealed to the farmers to cooperate for the success of the mission Fateh launched by the Punjab government.
