“Matsya Yojana” will play an important role in the development of fisheries says officials

Fisheries would be developed under Matsya Spanda Yojana, said Gurpreet Singh, Assistant Director Fisheries while presiding over a function on the occasion of World Fisheries Day at Fish Poong Farm, Bagrahiyan-Phagunmajra. He apprised the farmers about the new schemes launched by the department and said that financial assistance would be provided to the fish farmers for setting up of RAS system, bioflock system, fish pond hatcheries and fish feed mill under Matsya Spanda scheme. The government would provide 40 per cent subsidy to the general category and 60 per cent subsidy to the Scheduled Caste women on these new schemes. Under this scheme applications have been invited by the Fisheries Department for projects to be implemented in the state.

The function was attended by the fish farmers of District Fatehgarh Sahib. Giving information under the motto “Eat Fish, Build Healthy” issued by the Fisheries Department, the Assistant Director Fisheries said that fish is an easily available and affordable food for maintaining good health. Contains high levels of Vitamin A and D, Iron, Zinc, Iodine, Magnesium, Omega-3 and Fatty Acids. There are also many other benefits of eating fish such as lower risk of heart attack and brain stroke, increased digestive power, brain and eye health, help prevent stress, asthma, type 1 diabetes and Strengthens other diseases, enhances skin beauty, is effective in fighting cancer and helps prevent rheumatism.
