In a unique initiative to help the needy in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army has erected a ‘Daya Ki Diwar’ outside its camp adjacent to the Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Rajouri district. Under the initiative, food items, clothes and boots are kept in two open steel cupboards outside the army camp. It not only demonstrates the Army’s mission to help the needy but also wins the hearts of the local people. Col. Devendra Anand, Public Relations Officer, Army, Jammu, said, It is an initiative of the Spades Division and the ‘Daya Ki Diwar’ aims to help the weaker sections of the society by giving them the freedom to choose what they need, “he said, adding that people have taken it in good faith and donated. Positive feedback can be seen from those in need.
According to Lt. Col. Anand, the Rotary Club and Rajouri Police are assisting in this unique initiative. The Army has appealed to the people in various languages including English, Hindi and Urdu to help in this initiative. One such message reads, “Goods that are not useful to you may be of use to others.” We urge you to reach out and donate so that the needy can be helped, ”said Lt. Col. Anand. “The move has put a smile on the faces of many and encouraged people to donate,” he said.
