Independent candidates win in Garhshankar, BJP candidates’ bails forfeited

In 13 wards of Garhshankar Municipal Council elections, 3 councilors were elected on Congress and 10 councilors were elected independently. These elections saw the embarrassing state of the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP candidates were in the fray in two wards and their bails were forfeited. The total BJP candidates got only 27 votes from across the city. The performance of the Shiromani Akali Dal in this election was also very disappointing. The total Akali Dal candidates got only 491 votes from across the city. The city’s total polling was 9449. Despite the Aam Aadmi Party being the MLA from here, the Aam Aadmi Party’s failure to field a candidate on its symbol in any of the wards has been a major topic of discussion among the people. Bimala Devi (Azad) from Ward No. 1 won by a margin of 137 votes, Trimbak Dutt (Azad) from Ward No. 2 won by a margin of 9 votes, Inderjit Kaur (Azad) from Ward No. 3 won by a margin of 69 votes, from Ward No. 4 Sumit Soni (Azad) won by a margin of 111, Deepak Kumar (Azad) from Ward No. 5 won by a margin of 3, Harpreet Singh (Azad) from Ward No. 6 won by a margin of 68, Kirpal Ram (Congress) from Ward No. 7 Won by a margin of 135, Bhavna Kirpal (Azad) from Ward No. 8 won by a margin of 104, Sheila Devi (Congress) from Ward No. 9 by a margin of 46, Karnail Singh (Azad) from Ward No. 10 by a margin of 14 , Jaswinder Kaur (Azad) from Ward No. 11 won by a margin of 304, Somnath Bangar (Azad) from Ward No. 12 won by a margin of 293, Praveen (Congress) from Ward No. 13 won by a margin of 159.
