In Faridabad, 8,306 challaned for violating Covid norms

In the ongoing drive against violations of Covid protocol, the district police have issued as many as 8,306 challans and recovered penalty to the tune of Rs 41.53 lakh from offenders since January 1.

A spokesperson of the department said that besides the drive for creating awareness about Covid protocol and distribution of masks, the police penalised offenders not following rules.

He said while challans against 8,306 persons have been issued in the past 18 days, another 31 challans were issued against shopkeepers from whom a fine of Rs 1.55 lakh was recovered.

Admitting that violations had been rampant, he said the police would keep its drive on to implement the rules in a strict manner so that spread of infection is curbed.

Meanwhile, 1,285 new cases of Covid surfaced in the district on Wednesday, taking the total number of active cases to 12,059. It is the highest in the past eight months.

A total of 207 patients are hospitalised, 67 are in ICU or on oxygen support at present. The current sample positivity rate is 28.44 per cent. The recovery rate is 88.93 per cent.
