The Health Department Ferozepur today organized Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease – CODP Seminar at Civil Hospital, Zira which was presided over by Dr Rajinder Arora, Civil Surgeon.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Arora said, CODP is an inflammation disease of the lungs, which obstructs the flow of air from the lungs. Also giving reference of World Antibiotic Awareness Week, he said, no one should take any medicine on his own in case of any ailment but any medicine should be taken only on the advice of a doctor. He disclosed that a herbal medicine store would be opened at Zira soon.

Dr. Jaswinder Kalra, Paediatrician said that smoking is the leading cause of COPD and is responsible for about 9 out of every 10 cases. Harmful chemicals in smoke can damage the lungs and airways, so stopping smoking alone can help prevent COPD. The main symptoms of COPD include shortness of breath, wheezing or chronic cough, chest tightness, muscle weakness, or weight loss. This is usually due to gases or particles of the long-time of contact harassment, often from cigarette smoke. People with COPD have a higher risk of developing heart disease, lung cancer, and a variety of other conditions.
