Celebrating World Mental Health Day today, Dr.Rajinder Arora, Civil Surgeon said, people suffering from mental illnesses are not aware of their illness, so they do not recognize psychiatric disorders due to mental stress and anxiety. Insomnia, restlessness and suspicion mentioned by him are all early symptoms of psychiatry.

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10 every year. The day aims to spread awareness about mental health and advocate against the social stigma around mental health issues. The theme for the World Mental Health Day 2021 is ‘mental health in an unequal world.’ Mental health or psychological disorders are quite common in this day and age we are living in.

Dr. Arora said, the health department while fighting against Corona and Dengu, is also implementing all other health programmes efficiently. In view of the huge increase in the number of people suffering from mental illness, He said, psychiatrists are available in all the districts of Punjab for the services of psychiatrists and it is also possible to treat mental illness in the local civil hospital.

Psychiatrist Dr. Rachna Mittal appealed that if any member of any family is addicted to drugs and suffering from psychiatry then he should be immediately taken to the government hospital for treatment, where the identity of the patient is kept secret. Apart from this free drug rehabilitation and free counselling services are available at all the Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) operating in the district.

Dr. Manchanda, Deputy Medical Commissioner, District Hospital, Ferozepur, said that in the beginning, a person used to take drugs at the behest of his peers or as an experiment. He said, the drugs are the door to destruction, in which once a person enters; he has to face great difficulties to get out of this drug swamp.
