Health Dept counsellors to visit villages for awareness of drugs

Arvindpal Singh Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner, Punjab, while presiding over the meeting of the Governing Body of the District Drug Monitoring Committee here today, directed the councilors of the health department to visit the villages and make the people aware about the ill effects of drugs and motivate them to quit drugs. Will do In the meantime, he will brief the people on the arrangements made by the government for the free treatment of drug addicts. He directed the health department to formulate a comprehensive program in this regard and said that SDMs, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars and Police Station Chiefs of the concerned sub-divisions would also participate in these programs. During the meeting the Deputy Commissioner informed that drug de-addiction centers and oat clinics were running in the district. The patient is treated by being admitted in the de-addiction center while the patient does not have to be admitted in the oat clinic. He said that through these oat clinics many people were getting treatment and quitting drugs. He appealed to the residents of the district that if any one was suffering from drug addiction, he could feel free to come to the government hospital for treatment. He said that the identity of the patient is kept completely secret in the government hospital. Civil Surgeon Dr. Kundan K. Pal, S.P. Mr. Jagdish Bishnoi was also present.
