Many radio stations of Himachal Pradesh like Shimla, Dharamshala, and Hamirpur are received quite loud and clear in the plains of Punjab. For example, Shimla can be picked up to Beas in Punjab. Dharamshala can be picked up at Pathankot. There are some privileged radio stations of Punjab, which are using hilltop locations in Himachal Pradesh and can be listened to in far off places in Haryana and Punjab. These include Chandigarh and Jalandhar. These two stations can be heard up to Panipat in Haryana and Beas and Qadian in Punjab.
For the past few days, I am using my best radios at a location near Shimla for monitoring the FM radio reception at high altitude, to my surprise Punjab’s farthest located radio station at Fazilka is very clear between 6:00 am and 7:00 am on 100.8 MHz. All India Radio Bathinda on 101.1 KHz is very clear up to 10 am. All India Radio Patiala is quite loud all day on 100.2 MHz. On 100.1 MHz All India Radio Ludhiana is very clear on some of the days. All India Radio Jalandhar FM Rainbow is very clear on 102.7 MHz all day. All India Radio Jalandhar Vividh Bharati is very clear on some days on 100.6 MHz. All India Radio Jalandhar is always clear on 100.9 MHz and All India Radio Chandigarh is very powerful on 107.2 MHz. All India Radio Amritsar on 103.6 MHz is very clear between 5:00 am and 6:00 am. After that All India Radio Shimla disturbs it on 103.6 MHz and the reception is clear on 103.5 MHz. But after 11:00 am All India Radio Dharamshala disturbs it even on 103.5 MHz.
Some of the Haryana based Akashvani stations are also heard loud and clear at this hill station.
