Food wing of FDA Kapurthala has launched a special campaign during this festival season for awareness of food business operators and checking to curb adulteration.
Assistant food commissioner Kapurthala Mr. Harjot pal singh said that alongwith Food Safety Officers Satnam Singh and Mukul Gill has seized 83 samples during the last month mainly of Sweets, Dairy products like Milk, Paneer, Desi Ghee etc. from different parts of the district to check adulteration in the food stuffs and has also destroyed about 75 Kg of coloured sweets (prepared using unpermitted food colours) .
He also said that the wing has also checked cold stores and other such places which are likely to be used to store sweets and has also checked railway stations to check arrival of khoya or other such items likely to be transported from other States.
To aware the shopkeepers about the new direction passed by the Punjab Government and other agencies, the wing has held meetings with representatives of sweet shops, dairies and other food business operators at various places of the district Phagwara, Kapurthala City, Kala Sangha, Sidhwan Dona, Sultanpur Lodhi, Subhanpur etc.
The food wing has made it clear that as per the directions of FSSAI, it is mandatory to display “Best Before Date” on loose sweets, besides not to store khoya/sweets in cold stores. The Assistant food commissioner also asked the shopkeepers to not to procure khoya/sweets from other states/other districts as it is deemed to be of inferior quality and is usually supplied under inferior storage/transport condition besides not using the colour on sweets.
