The first phase of human testing of Oxford’s Covidshield vaccine at PGI Chandigarh has been successful. The condition of the three volunteers who were vaccinated on September 25 in the trial is satisfactory. It has been decided that the second dose of the vaccine will be given to them on Saturday after the test report of the blood sample of those volunteers came out on Thursday.
Prof. Director, PGI. Jagat Ram said that the team is excited about the success of the first phase of human testing. Volunteers will be given a second dose of the vaccine as the trial progresses on Saturday. After that the assessment will be done till the stipulated time limit. A similar procedure will be followed on other volunteers who have taken the first dose of the vaccine. His blood will also be tested on the 27th day and the second dose will be given on the 28th day based on the report.
He informed that more than 100 volunteers have been vaccinated so far in the test started from September 25 in PGI. Meanwhile, screening of other volunteers is in progress, their number has crossed 150. Human testing of this vaccine is underway around the world to beat the corona. So far more than 500 volunteers have registered in Chandigarh PGI. The registration process is still ongoing.
