Ferozepur students get first place in HERC organized by American Space Agency NASA

Ferozepur, May 3

The students of DCM Group of Schools have created history by securing first place in Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) organized by the American Space Agency NASA at international level, not only in the whole of India but across the world. This International Competition was won by DCM Group under the “Stem Engagement Category”.

The NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge aims to encourage research and development of new technologies for future mission planning and crewed space missions to other worlds.

Giving information, Deputy CEO Dr. Gopan Gopalakrishnan said that more than 3000 schools from all over the world participated in this international competition which started in July 2021. In which a difficult and relevant competition for college and high school students from all over the world in which the project based learning approach was included, was organized. He told that in this competition, students were included in such engineering projects which were related to the missions of NASA.

Das & Brown World School was the only school in India that was selected in the high school category by NASA in October 2021 to participate in the challenge, after which the school team was asked to present its prototype at an event at the US Space Center, Huntsville, Alabama. He said that the prototypes made by the children of DCM Presidency School were technology, designed, built and tested which would enable the rovers to perform in different environments.

Ramnita Sharma, AVP Science and Technology said that due to the ever-increasing cases of Covid, it was decided by NASA to organize this program in a virtual way in the beginning of February. She said that the school team showcased activities related to engineering design process, vehicle mechanism, 3D designing and printing etc. in this competition.

Group CEO Dr Anirudh Gupta congratulated the entire team. He said that many other programs have been started by the group in collaboration with top Indian and international universities to inculcate a research mindset among the students. He highlighted the recent launch of the Group-sponsored Students Research Fellowship (JSRF) program, through which students will get a platform and ample funding to realize their research ideas in prototypes.
