Muktsar, October 9
A day after farmers gheraoed Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal’s residence at Badal village here, the district administration and police today held a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with them in the village and promised their meeting would now be held with the Principal Secretary to CM and some department heads in Chandigarh on Saturday.
Notably, farmers from five districts – Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa, Fazilka and Faridkot – under the banner of BKU Ekta Ugrahan, were lodging a protest near Manpreet’s residence since Monday, demanding Rs 60,000 per acre compensation for themselves and Rs 30,000 for every farm labourer family for the damage to the cotton crop due to pink bollworm. They have even blocked the Kheowali-Bathinda road by pitching a tent.
