Election Commission to announce poll schedule for 5 states today

New Delhi, February 26
The Election Commission has intimated that it will announce the poll schedule for West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry on Friday. It said dates for Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal are going to be announced by the Commission at a press conference at 4.30 pm. These Assembly elections are due in April-May. The Bihar Assembly poll was the first major election held in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Commission is expected to implement a similar protocol as it announces poll dates amid a surge in Covid cases and increased security risk as political temperatures rise in poll-bound states. The Commission held a crucial meeting on Wednesday to finalise the schedule for the upcoming polls, where the panel also assessed the requirements, including the deployment of security forces and polling infrastructure, sources said, adding that it was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora.
