During the search operation, mobiles and banned items have been recovered from inside the jail from the jail inmates and inside the two packets thrown from outside. Out of 4 mobiles, 2 mobiles, charger, adopter, data cables were found from packets thrown inside by unidentified persons.
Earlier also a mobile phone along with a sim card has been recovered from gangster Manpreet Singh interrogated in connection with murder of singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala inside the Central Jail. SIT of the Mansa police probing the singer’s murder had brought Manna on production warrant after getting few strong leads in the case. Manna is a distant relative of Bhau, who had killed another gangster Kulveer Singh Naruana and his accomplice Chamkor Singh last year. According to police, Manna wasin touch with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, an accused in the singer’s murder case from inside the jail.
The recovery of mobiles on various search operation from the Ferozepur jail has become a cause of concern and put a question mark on the security arrangements at the entry points. During the last about one and a half year, 450 such devices have been seized from inmates including 300 during last year. The inmates stay connected with the outside world and the purpose of keeping the criminals away from society as punishment are also lost.
As per the details, two mobiles, two charger adopted, one Super voke charger adopter, three data cables white colour and one pair of earphones from the two packets thrown inside the jail by unidentified persons as informed by the Pesco employee Harpal Singh on duty between tower number 5 and 6. Two mobiles were also recovered during the checking by Kashmir Chand Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, of barrack number 3, from under trial prisoners Ravi alias Raman, Rakesh Kumar. One and a half packet of tobacco sachets also recovered from garden collie Varinder Singh, who has been deputed on dispatch duty in the office at the first floor.
In all the three recoveries, a case under Prisons Act has been registered against the three inmates and unidentified persons for throwing the packets. The cases have been entrusted to the IOs Gehna Ram, Janga Singh and Sukhdev Raj and further investigations are on with a special focus on purpose of use of mobiles and its smuggling inside the jail.
