Rupnagar, June 19
On the 27th National Reading Day, Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav inaugurated open library using the vacant space between the buildings in the District Administrative Complex.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Preeti Yadav motivated the school-going children to increase their inclination towards reading books. “Books can be our friends and guide us,” she said.
She further stated that knowledge and information, we get from books not only expand our vision, it also inspires us to do good deeds in our lives. She also asked the students to reduce habit of using mobiles and engage themselves in social work, which creates a sense of cooperation towards society and also boost their personality.
Assistant Commissioner Grievances Harjot Kaur shared views about the importance of reading books and said that with guidance from books we can choose the right direction for our life and career.
In his address, District Education Officer Jarnail Singh motivated the students to read books or newspapers on a daily basis and spend time in library.
On this occasion storytelling competitions of school children were conducted. Prizes were also distributed to the school children who won first, second and third place in reading and storytelling competitions.
In storytelling competition, Harjot Kaur got first prize, Jasmine Kaur got second prize and Avaldeep Kaur came at third prize. In the reading competition, Chhaya, Mehrunisha and Hina won first, second and third prizes respectively.
Arun Kumar, Employment Generation Skills Development and Training Officer, thanked all the guests present on the occasion. Apart from the above Deputy District Education Officer (S) Surinderpal Singh, Deputy District Education Officer (DO) Ranjana Katial, District Language Officer, Gurinder Singh Kalsi, DM Sports Baljinder Singh were specially present on the occasion.
Miss Supreet Kaur, Career Counselor, District Employment and Business Bureau, Rupnagar conducted the stage very well.
Apart from the officers of the district employment generation bureau, the officers of the education department, teachers and students specially participated also present on the occasion.
