Delhi govt. acts after COVID-19 cases spike from Nizamuddin

After a sudden spike in the COVID-19 infection count in Delhi, the Kejriwal government took several measures to contain the possibility of a wider spread. At the time of filing this story, 24 confirmed cases were reported of the people who had gathered for the Tablighi Jamat event in Nizamuddin, Delhi.

While more than 1,000 people had gathered for the congregation, many had stayed in the Markaz complex, which is the headquarters of the Jamat in the capital. Around 300 people who were symptomatic of the deadly virus were taken to LNJP hospital for screening and testing.

Measures taken

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked for an FIR against the Maulana who was hosting the congregation. The entire Nizamuddin area, majorly comprising of narrow lanes and alleyways has been locked down by the authorities.

With only health workers and police personnel allowed to move, drones have been deployed for surveillance in the area. A list of people who stayed at the dormitories in the Jamaat headquarter is being made to track and scan these people.

Authorities were informed

In a fresh report, it is disclosed that the Maulana had informed the authorities about “more than 1000 people of different states in the Markaz.” It is told that letters had been written to the SDM and SHO of the area by the Maulana, asking for vehicle passes to transport the people stranded at the headquarters.
