In a press conference today, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the vaccination drive is in full swing in Delhi. He said the government could vaccinate entire national capital in 3 months, if about 85 Lakh vaccine doses would be provided to them. He said that 1 lakh vaccines are being administered daily in Delhi.
“Many people are coming to Delhi from neighbouring cities- Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Sonipat, Gurgaon, Noida to get their Covid vaccination. The biggest hurdle we are facing today is lack of vaccines, if we will get adequate quantity of Covid doses, we can vaccinate entire Delhi within 3 months”, Delhi CM said this afternoon.
Arvind Kejriwal further said that “Delhi needs 1 crore doses for the people of 18-44 age group and out of 3 crore, we got 40 lakh vaccines from Central Government so far. Delhi government can administer 3 lakh vaccines daily. We need nearly 80-85 lakh doses every month”. Kejriwal appealed to the center government to increase the number of Covid vaccine doses for Delhi as there are just 5 to 6 days of doses left. He said 250-300 schools would be used as vaccination centers. A third wave of corona is expected. The Supreme Court has also expressed concern over the third wave. It is very important to speed up vaccination drive to prevent the third wave.
In these few weeks, India saw an alarming surge in Covid cases, which has put a heavy burden on hospitals. Delhi comes under one of the worst-hit cities amid the second wave. In the last 24 hours, city records 19,832 new Covid-19 cases and 341 deaths.
