The smoke produced due to burning of paddy straw reduces the maximum daytime visibility which leads to increase in road accidents and loss of precious human lives. Wheat should be destroyed and sown in the field instead of being set on fire. Deputy Commissioner Pathankot Mr. Sanyam Agarwal, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Pathankot has launched a special campaign to make Pathankot district pollution free for the fifth time under which in the first phase Resolutions on burning are being passed. He said that till date a total of 265 Gram Panchayats have passed resolutions for burning of paddy straw.
As air pollution increases.He said that instead of burning the paddy straw, it should be spread in the field with the help of plow or rotavator. Sowing can be done without plowing the field. He said that any farmer who needs to hire the machinery required to cultivate the paddy without removing the paddy straw from the field should contact the Agriculture Development Officer / Agricultural Extension Officer of his constituency.
