Chandigarh, May 13
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has approved the Excise policy of 2020-21.
As per the reports, the policy was approved on Tuesday evening before Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh was divested of the additional charge of excise and taxation, after being a part of a row over conflict of interest over his son’s stake in the liquor business.
The contractors have been allowed compensation for nine days due to the imposition of the lockdown on March 22.
As per the sources, it is up to the contractors whether they want to go with home delivery of liquor or not. In Fatehgarh Sahib and Mohali, the liquor vends are already open and contractors have decided not to go for home delivery.
As the policy has approved, the contractors were ready to open liquor vends from today itself.
Out of the 5,800 liquor vends, those Mohali and some parts of Ropar were opened on May 7. The contractors who opted for a renewal of the licence or had taken fresh contracts in other districts chose to stay away.
