The Water Supply and Sanitation Department in collaboration with District Administration Rupnagar has provided safe drinking water to 100 percent of the households in the rural areas.
This information was given by Sonali Giri, Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar. Disclosing this, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Government of India has launched ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ under which the target of providing safe drinking water to 100 percent of the households in the rural areas with water connection by the year 2024 has been set. However, the Punjab government has set the target that the work should be completed by the year 2022.
She said that under this program, the objective was to provide safe drinking water to every household at the rate of at least 55 liters per capita through water supply connection.
Disclosing this here today Deputy Commissioner Smt. Water connections are available to homes.
She said that the work of upgrading the resources and waterworks of the existing water supply connections would be started. Apart from this, new water supply schemes are being started in the villages where there is a shortage of drinking water so that every household can get the required quantity of safe drinking water. A total of 4 new water supply schemes have been completed in district Rupnagar so far this year and work on 12 water supply schemes is in progress which will be completed by March 2021.
