Following the announcement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new immunization policy, the Center has ordered 440 million doses of corona vaccine – Covishield and Covaxin. It may be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Monday announced that the Union government would take over the procurement quota of the states and provide free vaccines to the people above the age of 18 years. The Union Ministry of Health has said that the supply of these 440 million doses of Covid vaccine will be made available by the manufacturers by December, starting from now.
In this regard, an official said that after the announcement of changes in the guidelines of the National Covid Vaccination Program by the Prime Minister, the Center has ordered 250 million doses of Covishield to Serum Institute and 190 million doses of Covacin to Bharat Biotech. . He said that 30 per cent amount has been released to Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech for procurement of both Covid vaccines. The official said that the Center was supporting the efforts of the states and Union Territories for the immunization drive starting January 16 this year.
The government has also fixed the maximum price to be charged by private hospitals for the three covid vaccines available in the country. Under this, private hospitals can charge Rs 780 for Covishield, Rs 1410 for Covaxin and Rs 1145 for Russian-made Sputnik-V. Meanwhile, the health ministry on Tuesday sent a letter to all the states and union territories saying that appropriate action should be taken against private immunization centers if they charge more than the stipulated price for vaccines.
