School Education and Public Works Minister Punjab Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, on Monday, inaugurated Breast Cancer awareness and free program here at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital (HBCH), Sangrur. As the awareness program has been started today, the free screening of the patients will be done from October 16 to October 30. Till now HBCH, Sangrur has registered 16,000 patients, out of which 2842 were of breast cancer.
While addressing the gathering inside the auditorium of the hospital, the cabinet minister said that breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in the world and early detection of this disease could help to save multiple lives of females. He added that the unit of Tata Memorial Centre, HBCH has continuously been providing quality and affordable services to the patients of the region.
October month is observed as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month across the globe to promote awareness about early detection of breast cancer, education about prevention and various treatment options available. HBCH, Sangrur also run an EDP (Early Detection Program) since 2019 and covered 37 rural areas and 17 urban areas covering a population of 86,000.
