After a big controversy regarding its ‘Hindu-Muslim’ ad that showed an attempt to celebrate the “coming together of people from different walks of life,” self-proclaimed social media crusaders yet again demanded to ‘Boycott Tanishq’ on Twitter. This time the boycott calls are for its ‘no-firecracker Diwali’ ad, following which the brand took the ad down.
The commercial featured actors Neena Gupta, Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Alaya F talking about how they will be celebrating Diwali this year. In the video, the brand talked about celebrating the festival of lights without any firecrackers which did not go down well with the netizens. Many have seen this as an “advice” to Hindus on how to celebrate Diwali.
Some Twitter users have said that festivals should not be used as social awareness campaigns. Many users have also come in support of the ad and said that green crackers also are not 100 per cent pollution-free.
