A meeting of the Board of Directors of Batala Cooperative Sugar Mills was held today under the chairmanship of Mr. Sukhwinder Singh Kahlo In which he condemned the misrepresentation made by the former chairman of Sugarfed Punjab Mr. Sukhbir Singh Wahla.
Cooperative Sugar Mill, Batala Board of Directors Chairman Sukhwinder Singh Kahlo, Beant Singh Vice Chairman, Gurbachan Singh Bajwa, Gurwinderpal Singh Kahlon, Jaswant Singh, Balwinder Kaur Kot Ahmed Khan, Savinder Singh Randhawa, Harjinder Singh held a press conference at Sugar Mill Batala today. He said that the procurement of equipment for the repair and maintenance of the plant was done in a transparent manner after publishing the tender in the newspapers and posting the e-tender on the website of the state government. The annual budget prepared by the mill is estimated while the actual expenditure is known only after opening and repairing the machinery. In case of expenditure being out of the budget, its approval is sought from the State Level Committee constituted by Sugarfed Punjab and in the meeting of the Board of Directors. Similarly the mill also sells scrap on the website of the state government in which anyone can participate and scrap is sold.
Chairman S. Mr. Kahlon said that the Akali government had directly appointed a milk seller who was totally ignorant of the sugar industry who was neither a director nor chairman of any board and made him chairman of Sugarfed Punjab. The Board of Directors accused Sukhbir Singh Wahla of taking almost all the contracts in the sugar mill at arbitrary rates through the President of the Workers Union. Through outsourcing, the manpower was charged Rs. 550 per worker and Rs. Similarly in Bhogpur Cooperative Sugar Mill during the Akali Dal government in the new looking mill Mr. Sukhbir Singh Wahla made a big fuss and the tender was awarded to the party on a single tender and during the election the plant was in a state of disrepair. Could not be completed.
The Board further lashed out at Sukhbir Singh Wahla and said that thanks to the Punjab Government for implementing the 5th Pay Commission on the employees of the sugar mills, a function was organized at the state level to honor Bikram Singh Majithia. The amount collected from Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,000 has not yet been accounted to any employee or union. He further said that there were complaints of scams by Wahla even during the tenure of the then government which was being investigated by the Registrar Cooperative Societies Punjab and Sugarfed Punjab by the then Akali Dal government. He said that those files would be reopened so that all the scams committed by Wahla could be exposed.
