The District Red Cross Society also organized a Diwali Mela on the second day at District Administrative Complex Barnala under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mr. Tej Partap Singh Phoolka.
The stalls display pickles, sauces, jams, handicrafts, handmade sweaters, children’s clothing, organic vegetables, corn, millet, ragi, jowar, kangani flour, mustard greens, sweet corn, Cheese stalls selling pulses, cereals and a variety of vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants were the center of attraction.
On the occasion Deputy Commissioner Mr. Tej Partap Singh Phoolka lauded the groups and said that there was a great need for such self help groups which would give them a chance to stand on their own feet.
On this occasion District Training Officer Barnala Dr. Mr. Charanjit Singh Keenth informed that due to the absence of any agricultural fair or Saras Mela due to Corona epidemic, the stalls of self help groups were not being set up and this Diwali Mela has proved to be very beneficial for the groups.
Speaking on the occasion Sunita Sharma from Agriculture Department said that the self help groups set up under Atma scheme, Ekta Self Help Group, Sukhmani Self Help Group and Jawandha Agriculture Service Center and organic stalls of Atma Kisan Hut received overwhelming response.
