Punjab Sports & Youth and NRIs Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi accused the Akali leaders of making futile attempts to politicize the pilgrims issue, who returned from Nanded.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Minister said that the people of the state will never forgive those engaged in negative politics. He said that the SAD leaders need to realize that people cannot be served through petty politics or raised sensitive issues in a negative manner. “One has to stand with them to serve humanity”, he added.

Rana Sodhi said that Punjab Government led by Captain Amarinder Singh did not leave the people alone during this pandemic, unlike the Akali leaders. He regretted that the opposition parties had proved that they only wanted to protect personal interests at a time when they should have risen above petty politics.

He said that the pandemic had changed the entire world altogether but the negative politics of opposition had remained unchanged. He remarked that opposition’s attempt to divide the community was deplorable.

The minister said that SAD and other opposition parties had done nothing to help overcome coronavirus. “It, rather, tried to divide the people instead of standing with them. The negative role being played by them in the prevailing circumstances is condemnable”, he added.

He emphasized that the state needed unity and brotherhood than ever before. The government is fully committed to overcoming the pandemic and public service will be steadfastly continued in this difficult moment, the minister concluded.
