Agnipath row: Punjab Police on alert in view of Bharat Band call today

Punjab Police is on alert in view of the ongoing agitation against the Agnipath Scheme and rumours of the Bharat Band call.

The following instructions have been issued by the ADGP  to all the police officials:

1. These protests are being mobilized through Social Media platforms, hence, there is a need to activate the Social Media Cells and monitor the activities of such Social Media groups which are actively mobilizing or spreading instigating information about the scheme.

2. It has also been learnt that some organizations with a vested interest may be supporting this agitation. The local police shall monitor the situation very closely and take suitable preventive action to ensure peace in the area. 3. The offices and installations related to Central Government departments shall be strongly protected. 4. Railway property and railway installations shall also be protected and there should be close coordination between state police, GRP and RPF. 5. Army recruitment centres and other vulnerable military installations might also be under threat, hence all such Army recruitment centres shall be protected. A close liaison shall also be maintained with Army authorities to secure these locations. 6. Offices related to BJP, Hindu leaders and other similarly placed threatened person shall also be protected. 7. Some training institutes are also indirectly supporting the protesters. There is a need to counsel the owners and managers of such institutes. The list of coaching centres is attached herewith (Annexure-A). You may also trace other such training institutes engaged in proving training to youngsters. 8. All such protests shall be properly covered with videography and photography. 9. Senior police officers shall personally involve themselves in monitoring these protests and shall remain stationed wherever these protesters gather. CPS/SSPs shall also tie up with District Magistrates for the deployment of Duty Magistrates. 10. The local police may also resort to regular preventive measures including invoking section 152 Cr.P.C if somebody indulges in damage to public property. 11. CPS/SSPs shall keep the communication channels open and try to gather as much inputs through Social Media as well as human Intelligence to monitor the situation closely. They shall activate their Special Branches and work in close coordination with Intelligence Wing and other sister intelligence agencies. 12. CPS/SSPs shall remain in close contact with local CAPF Commanders and request them to keep their force on standby in case of response to any eventuality. In case of any extreme emergency, local CAPF Coys. may be requisitioned through by adopting official procedures.
