The district administration has made necessary arrangements to save the wheat arriving in the mandis of district Gurdaspur keeping in view the rainy season during the wheat procurement process. Thanks to these arrangements, the wheat crop has been saved from getting wet due to light rains in Batala this morning.
Disclosing this here today Bikmarjit Singh, Secretary, Market Committee, Batala said that the officers of the procurement agencies and the artisans were instructed to ensure the provision of tarpaulins in every mandi to protect the wheat keeping in view the rainy season. Let’s go. The maids have been clearly told that they should have tarpaulins as per their requirement so that they can cover their own piles in case of rain. Similarly, the responsibility of handling the crop that is sold falls on the procurement agency, for which tarpaulins are also provided by the agencies.
Secretary Bikmarjit Singh said that there are huge permanent sheds in Batala Mandi where there is no damage to the crop due to rains. Apart from this, outside the shed, the market is well established and the artisans have tarpaulins. He said that although there was light rain this morning but no damage was done to the crop due to earlier arrangements.
The Secretary Market Committee said that the farmers should take only the dried wheat crop in the mandis. He said that the Punjab government had directed that no farmer should face any difficulty in the mandis and these instructions were being followed. He said that in view of COVID-19, necessary arrangements have been made in all the mandis of the market committee as per the directions of the Punjab government.
