The Chandigarh Administration has distributed 1,400 metric tonnes of wheat under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. The foodgrains are distributed free of cost to the registered beneficiaries @ 10 KG of wheat per family member, for month of May and June 2021 in one go. Only those, who have been earlier enrolled for cash transfer under DBT are eligible to receive these foodgrains. This is in addition to monthly food subsidy being given.
Vinod P. Kavle, IAS, Secretary, Food & Supplies stated that despite lack of any infrastructure like fair price shops, food depots, the Administration has been able to distribute the foodgrains in various sectors without any crowd, congestion, or controversy.
The Administrator, VPS Bandore has advised that the help of area councillors should be taken to ensure smooth distribution.
The food distribution has already been completed in Mauli Jagran, Manimajra, Sector 26 and 49. It is presently going on in areas like Dhanas, Maloya, Burail, Sector 52 and 56.
Sh. Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser has thanked the police authorities for providing adequate security for the distribution of foodgrains.
The Department of Food has set up an exclusive consumer helpline No.1800-180-2079, where the information regarding the scheme could be obtained and grievances could be lodged.
